The Integrative Health Care Institute was founded in 1990, originally called the Ayurveda Holistic Center, by Swami Sadashiva Tirtha.
About Our Founder
Swamiji was trained in meditation & yoga teacing in the early 1970's and received Ayurveda & Vedic astrology training in 1988. He founded one of the first ayurveda consultation centers, certification schools, and herbal product lines in the USA in the early 1990's. Our first website launched in 1997, and the article journal was added around 2004. He also earned the first Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Ayurveda in the United States. Swamiji has spoken at the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and at John Hopkins and other universities in the US and India.
Swamiji became a swami (monk) in 1990 in Uttarkashi, India by his guruji, Swami Narayan Tirtha, and continues to re-dedicate himself to serving the people and the planet.
About Our Commitments
Our holistic view of Ayurvedic life includes the health of the environment and fair trade/treatment of humans. We are a zero-carbon company, that means, for all the carbon we put into the atmosphere, we donate to build new solar, wind, and biogas facilities that will increase our country's use of clean energy producers. We also donate yearly to various causes that help people help themselves, as well as other educational and arts-oriented causes. Our books are printed on recycled paper, and we use as much recycled items as possible.
Latest News
After 17 years running a center on Long Island, NY, Swamiji expanded the center by moving to a small farm in bucolic upstate New York. Here programs continue including residential retreats, organic farming, Ayurvedic cooking, sustainable living and house building, care for unwanted animals and weaving, creating/performing of uplifting music, spiritual and meditation consultations/retreats.
